Dr. David Agor, DNP, PMHNP-BC, HIVPCP
Prescriber
David Agor is a doctorally-prepared Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with advanced expertise in functional psychiatry and mental health care for diverse populations. He earned his first Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is currently a PhD candidate in Nursing Science at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Additionally, he is pursuing a certificate in Implementation Science at the Perelman School of Medicine.
Dr. Agor's practice and research focus on evidence-based functional psychiatry approaches to advance mental health outcomes for diverse populations. He has dedicated years to researching mental health access and care delivery for sexual and gender-diverse (SGD or LGBTQ) individuals, with particular emphasis on SGD survival migrants (also known as asylum seekers). His work positions him as an emerging leader in this critically underserved area of mental health care.
As a certified PMHNP-BC and HIV Primary Care Provider (HIVPCP), Dr. Agor integrates advanced training in nutritional psychiatry, motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and bibliotherapy to provide comprehensive, holistic mental health services. His clinical approach is particularly tailored to serve SGD populations and individuals facing multiple intersecting barriers to care.
Functional Psychiatry Expertise
Dr. Agor is recognized as one of the few experts in functional psychiatry—a comprehensive, evidence-based, precision-focused, and culturally congruent mental health treatment paradigm. This evolving field operationalizes the biopsychosocial model of care by incorporating biological, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of wellness. Functional psychiatry offers holistic transdiagnostic interventions that resonate with diverse cultural worldviews while specifically targeting risk factors for conditions such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and suicidal behaviors.
Comprehensive Functional Assessment
Dr. Ago's approach includes thorough evaluations that integrate biochemical, genetic, nutritional, environmental, psychological, and social factors to identify root causes of mental health conditions rather than focusing solely on symptom management. These assessments incorporate laboratory testing and detailed clinical histories to develop personalized, evidence- based treatment plans that address the unique needs of each patient.
