Payment and Insurance FAQ's
What are the costs of therapy with insurance?
For insurance-related questions, call the benefits number on the back of your insurance card. Ask whether your plan includes a copay or deductible and whether you can see a specific provider. Generally, the copay for psychotherapy is the same as for a primary care physician (PCP) visit and is usually printed on the front of your insurance card.
What if I'm using out-of-network coverage?
There are two possible ways to cover the cost of sessions:
1. You can pay directly through the client portal and submit a "superbill" (a receipt) to your insurance for reimbursement. Superbills are automatically generated monthly, or we can send one after each payment if you prefer.
2. We can set up electronic non-provider billing with most insurance companies. There may be a copay or deductible depending on your insurance.
What is Self-Pay?
Self-pay (also called private-pay) is when a patient pays directly for sessions rather than using insurance. This is an option for people without insurance, those who prefer not to use their insurance, or those whose insurance covers only out-of-network providers. Self-pay patients are responsible for the cost of their sessions. Each clinician sets their own self-pay rate and, where applicable, sliding scale.
How do I pay for services?
Payment can be made by credit card through the Client Portal, which offers secure, HIPAA-compliant transactions. The portal can be used for self-pay, deductibles, or copays depending on your insurance coverage. It offers an auto-pay feature and automatically sends invoices the day after a session, or after insurance processes a claim. We can also accept cash or check.
