Specialized Skills Training

Dr. Weingarden has specialized experience in the treatment of bipolar disorder, anorexia and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skills for individuals with affect regulation difficulty such as related to Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or personality disorders. See below for information on his professional experience. People, or family members of individuals with bipolar disorder, anorexia or affect regulation difficulties, can schedule a series of educational and skill-focused sessions on managing these conditions. These skill training sessions are typically time-limited (a certain number of sessions depending on the topics that need to be covered) and are self-pay.

Therapy

Dr. Weingarden worked in bipolar disorder research and treatment from 2009 through 2015, and has continued to work with individuals diagnosed with bipolar disorder through his time as a therapist since then. Dr. Weingarden has specialized training in Interpersonal Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) while working with and supervised by Dr. Ellen Frank.

During his time as a Senior Program Director at UPMC's Western Psychiatric Hospital, Dr. Weingarden oversaw the inpatient Center for Eating Disorders treatment program including updating the Dialectical Behavior Therapy geared for individuals with anorexia, and creating a group therapy based off of Focal Dynamic Therapy and a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy group treatment manual for Anorexia and Avoidant-Restrictive Food Intake Disorder (ARFID).

At UPMC, Dr. Weingarden received supervised training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills and updated the hospital's group treatment manual to include some aspects of DBT-RO (radically open) skills.
